Privacy Policy

THE SHORT VERSION
Almost everything you do in NaijaEats stays on your phone. We don't run user accounts, we don't sell your data, and we don't show ads. Photos you scan and your location (only when you use the store finder) are sent to our server briefly to answer your request — then forgotten.
Who we are
NaijaEats is a recipe and meal-planning app for Nigerian and African cooking. If you have any question about this policy, email us at naijaeats90@gmail.com.
What stays on your phone (and never leaves it)
- Your profile. The name and email you type at sign-in are stored only on your device. We do not have user accounts and we never receive or store this information on any server.
- Your cooking life. Favourites, meal plans, shopping lists, imported recipes, ratings, cooking history, calorie targets and app settings are all stored locally on your device.
Deleting the app deletes all of this data. There is nothing for us to delete on our side, because we never had it.
What is sent to our server, and why
- Photos you choose to scan or import. When you use "What's that dish?" or import a recipe from a screenshot, that image is sent to our server and processed by OpenAI (our AI provider) to recognise the dish or read the recipe text. The image is used only to answer your request. We do not build a library of your photos.
- Recipe links you import. The web address is fetched by our server to extract the recipe.
- Your location — only if you allow it, and only for the store finder. When you search for nearby African food stores, your approximate location is sent to our server and used to query OpenStreetMap services (Nominatim and Overpass) for shops near you. Your location is used for that single search and is not stored or tracked.
Payments
Premium subscriptions are processed entirely by Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play), with subscription status managed by RevenueCat. We never see or store your card details. You can manage or cancel your subscription anytime in your App Store or Google Play account settings.
What we don't do
- We don't sell, rent, or share your personal data with anyone for marketing.
- We don't show third-party ads or use advertising trackers.
- We don't track you across other apps or websites.
Children
NaijaEats is a general-audience cooking app and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes to this policy
If we change how the app handles data (for example, if we ever add real user accounts), we will update this page and change the effective date at the top.
